Sometimes bigger isn’t always better and if there’s one restaurant that could prove a statement like that, it’s Sly’s Sliders and Fries. Located in the Thomas Square neighborhood at 1710 Abercorn St, this little restaurant was a great find. During this visit, we ordered fries and several different sliders.
Food
My first slider was the Perro Cubano, which was a hotdog slider with yellow mustard, pulled pork, Swiss cheese, dill pickles and herb mayo. This was the highlight of my meal! The texture and all the complimenting flavors made this one an easy winner. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to eat another hot dog.
The second slider I tried was The Jerk Store, which was a Caribbean jerk chicken slider with pepper jack cheese, pepperoncini mayo and grilled pineapple. The only problem with this one was my unwillingness to eat the slider as it was meant to be eaten. I asked for no pineapple, which was a big mistake. It was good but I could tell it was missing the pineapple.
The rest of our sliders were a bit more traditional (The Boardwalk). To me, when eating a traditional burger, the quality of ingredients will either make or break it. In this case, we were more than pleased.
The other star of the show was the fries. We only had one order to share between two adults, but it seemed like just enough. They had the perfect balance of seasoning and crunch that had us fighting over the last few.
Overall, the food was great. I can’t wait to be a little more adventurous next time and try some of their other combinations.
Ambiance
Sly’s is a small restaurant with a lot of heart. There’s nothing gaudy or pretentious here, which is appreciated. It’s comfortable, warm, has plenty of natural lighting and some outdoor seating. Everything I could want while grabbing a quick bite to eat.
Bottom Line
Away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Savannah, Sly’s Sliders and Fries is a great place to grab a quick bite to eat. With such an inviting atmosphere and so many interesting combinations, I’ll definitely return soon.
