Museums to visit in Savannah

Explore history at Telfair Museums.  The 3-site admission ticket grants access to the Jepson Center, the Telfair Academy and the Owens-Thomas House Slave Quarters. The three museums are all within a 7-minute walk from each other in historic downtown Savannah. The museums feature art, history and architecture exhibits. Don’t forget to stop by the museum gift shop for a unique souvenir. Admission for kids under 5 are free and children 6-12 years old is $5.

The Georgia State Railroad Museum is packed with cool activities for kids. The museum is a historic site that features interesting exhibits such as the hands-on handcar activity, a locomotion lab and a model train room. The museum even has a play area for the younger kids to let out some energy. Admission for children ages 2 to 12 is $7.

The SCAD Museum of Art is a contemporary art museum that features emerging artists from all over the world. Visitors can view a list of the museum’s current exhibitions on the SCAD museum’s website. Admission for children under the age of 14 is free.

Wormsloe Historic State Park is the perfect place to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air. The trails are lined with gorgeous oak trees for seven miles. There are some interesting sites to see along the way like the Tabby Ruins. Admission for children under 6 is $2 and youth ages 6-17 is $4.50.

Dive into Georgia’s marine life at UGA Marine Education Center and Aquarium! The location features Georgia’s first saltwater aquarium. Today there are 16 tanks filled with an array of marine life. After exploring the exhibits, feel free to enjoy a picnic lunch alongside the Skidaway River. Admission for children ages 3-12 is $5.

Spring break is a great time to get your toes in the sand. Tybee Island is only a 20-minute drive from Savannah. The island has beaches to explore with plenty of tours, restaurants, fishing, biking and hiking trails. Check out the Tybee Island Lighthouse for some amazing views of the ocean or shop local on Tybrisa Street.

Duck Donuts has a variety of donut flavors you won’t find at your average local donut shop. These donuts are definitely a Savannah Secret Society favorite. If you’re not in the mood for a donut try out one of their milkshakes or ice cream sundaes.

Taste one of the many flavors of cookies at Byrd’s Famous Cookies. Byrd’s Famous Cookies has been a family business in Savannah since 1928. The famous cookies have been a hit across the country ever since. The best part? The company still creates new cookie flavors to this day! You can find Byrd’s famous cookies downtown Savannah at City Market.

Other fun things to do with kids in Savannah…

DEFY Savannah has plenty of options to let off some steam. Test your parkour skills on their ninja course or zipline. Get a free shirt when you join the fight club this spring break, now through April 24.

Escape Savannah is an exciting experience to keep you on your toes. Groups can choose ghost or pirate theme options. Beware, the ghost option may be a bit on the scarier side! The age minimum for the ghost escape room is 14 and the pirate theme option is 9.

Exhilarate- The Adventure Zone is another great place to get active. This location has plenty of options for all ages. Toddlers can enjoy the soft play area and adults can try out the ninja course. The Adventure Zone also features an arcade and a pizzeria.
