The Bird's Nest

Review of Goose Feathers Cafe in Savannah, Ga.

If you’re looking for a cozy café to enjoy a cup of coffee and some delicious food in Savannah, look no further than Goose Feathers Café. This charming café is a favorite of both locals and tourists alike, and for good reason. Not only is the food amazing, but the café also has a fascinating history.

First opening in 1986, the café is named after the founder’s favorite childhood book, “The Goose That Laid the Golden Egg.” This is a fitting name for a restaurant that definitely knows how to make an egg the highlight of a meal (see below).

FOOD

The menu at Goose Feathers Café is full of delicious options, from breakfast items like omelets and waffles to sandwiches and salads for lunch. The café is also known for its homemade pastries, which include everything from croissants and muffins to scones and cakes.

During our visit we got the Birds Nest, eggs benedict and the Whoopie Pie.

The Birds Nest looks amazing and is probably my favorite thing on the menu. This beautiful dish has two poached eggs sitting on a nest of grits with homemade salsa, a pinch of cilantro and a giant ring of shredded white cheddar. Everything from the amount of cheddar to the texture of this meal was on point. It will be tough even thinking about trying something else during my next visit.

My wife ordered the eggs benedict, which was served Savannah style on a homemade croissant. While this departure from the traditional English muffin was surprising, I can’t believe more people aren’t doing this. Nobody in their right mind chooses an English muffin over a croissant.

For dessert we tried the Whoopie Pie. This desert consists of two soft, cake-like cookies sandwiched together with a creamy buttercream filling. It’s no secret, it’s delicious. The only surprising thing here was that the desert was not overly sweet, which was actually appreciated. Easy to finish without feeling sick after.

AMBIENCE

The interior of Goose Feathers Café is cozy and inviting, with plenty of natural light. The café has a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. Literally, it almost feels like you’re sitting at grandma’s house.

The restaurant can get busy, and we’ve seen lines stretching out the door on more than one occasion. With that said, this isn’t a bad thing in Savannah, where many popular restaurants require a reservation well in advance. Regardless, don’t let this deter you, the line moves quickly, and you’ll be stuffing your face full of delicious gluten before you know it.

BOTTOM LINE

Overall, Goose Feathers Café is a delightful spot to grab a bite to eat and relax in the heart of Savannah. Whether you’re looking for a quick breakfast before heading out to explore the city or a leisurely lunch with friends, you won’t be disappointed by the food or location. So next time you’re in Savannah, be sure to stop by Goose Feathers Café and experience this spot for yourself.
