As a longtime fantasy novel and anime nut, I’m always on the lookout for places to nerd out. Driving by Nerdheim on Broughton Street, you might miss the place. The entrance is fairly modest, with only a bright orange door sign to pull you in from the street. Luckily, just like every hero’s humble beginning, there’s more here than meets the eye.
The minute you walk up and look inside, you can immediately tell that someone has spent a good deal of time creating this space. The first thing I did when walking in was stare at all the awesome, multicolored Edison bulbs that adorn the ceiling. Seriously, what a great design choice. Not only does it look cool, but it manages to make the entire store feel special as the various colors reflect off all the shiny comics and toys. Additionally, the plain colored Edison bulbs give the entire store a sense of inviting warmth.
After ogling the lights for a few minutes, it was time to get down to business. The wife had a nice Mimosa buzz going so I wanted to make a purchase before she realized we were buying toys. Looking around, just like the store layout, you could tell someone put a great deal of thought into what was being offered.
Funny enough, it was my wife who ended up leaving the store with an armful of toys. Mainly because they had the best collection of Funko Pops we had ever seen. I don’t know about you all, but we usually have to sift through a bunch of crap to find a few gems. Instead, I had to start reasoning with my wife to ensure we didn’t leave with 20 Funko Pops in hand. They had everything from Rocky Balboa to all three of the Power Puff Girls. An employee said that they try their best to ensure they have the latest ones in stock. Again, showing that these owners really care about their store.
I was looking for some Naruto gear to have signed at the 2022 Savannah Animazing-Con, which was set to have Maile Flanagan, voice of Naruto, as a guest. While they did have some figures, I wasn’t able to find exactly what I was looking for. This was not a huge deal, but I thought it was worth noting. Mainly because this store has a very different value proposition than others. Instead of jamming every inch of the store with products, the owners of Nerdheim have carefully curated every item in the store. I’ll leave you all to decide, which is better.
Overall, we are big fans of Nerdheim. The experience from start to finish was super polished and the amount of care put into every inch of this store is impressive. It may not have everything, but this store isn’t worried about that. Instead, Nerdheim provides customers with the latest and greatest. Nerdheim is a Savannah Secret Society favorite.
